Deaths Caused by General Security Gunfire… Operational Mistakes Spark Public Anger in Syria
الأمن العام يقتل عنصر ومدنيين في حوادث متفرقة وأخطاء لاتغتفر

Catastrophic failures within Syria’s Ministry of Interior are mounting following a series of deadly security incidents over the past few days.

According to local sources, General Security personnel opened fire on a Ministry of Defense member named "Othman al-Sayyed" in the city of al-Bab, in the Aleppo countryside, killing him. The incident came less than 24 hours after reports circulated about the death of a young man, "Mohammad Ghamira", inside a General Security branch in the al-Haffah area of the Latakia countryside, amid allegations that he had been subjected to torture.

Local reports also stated that a civilian was killed two days ago in the al-Safira area of the Aleppo countryside after being shot during a security pursuit of another person, apparently as a result of mistaken identity.

These incidents add to the ongoing controversy surrounding detainees accused of belonging to ISIS, following reports that some individuals who were detained were later found—according to their families and local sources—to be innocent.

The incidents have prompted calls for independent and transparent investigations, accountability for anyone responsible for abuses, and guarantees that the law and the rights of civilians and detainees are respected. It should be noted that the information circulating about these incidents requires official documentation and confirmation from independent sources before it can be considered fully verified.
