Families of the missing in Gaza demand Hamas to adhere to the agreement to reveal the fate of their sons
The Palestinian scene is witnessing increasing tension between the families of the missing in Gaza Strip and Hamas, as these families issued an urgent appeal calling on Hamas not to evade the implementation of the prisoner and missing persons exchange agreement, due to its great humanitarian and national importance. The families emphasized that any delay or procrastination in enacting the agreement would deprive them of their right to know the fate of their loved ones held in Israeli prisons or missing for years.
Sources indicate that dozens of families in Gaza and the West Bank are living in a state of anxiety and anticipation, as they lack confirmed information about their children who disappeared during military operations or lost contact with them in conflict zones. These families affirm that hope in the existing agreement is the only way to uncover the truth and achieve some of the long-awaited justice.
Several relatives of the missing expressed their dissatisfaction with the lack of transparency, demanding the relevant authorities, primarily Hamas, to fulfill their humanitarian and political commitments. They pointed out that the issue is not about political or negotiation gains but is primarily a humanitarian matter, touching the feelings of hundreds of mothers and fathers living in hope of receiving news that ends their long suffering.
On the other hand, human rights circles believe that a full and transparent commitment by all parties to implement the agreement could reduce internal tension and build trust between the Palestinian people and their institutions. Humanitarian organizations also called for keeping this issue detached from political disputes and dealing with it according to humanitarian standards that ensure every person’s right to life, information, and dignity.
Amid these calls, the question remains: Will the parties commit to implementing the agreement in a way that guarantees the revelation of the missing persons' fate? Or will suffering continue amidst ambiguity and waiting? The families’ demand is simple and clear — the truth, nothing but the truth.
