Gulf States Emphasize Comprehensive Syrian National Dialogue

The Gulf Cooperation Council emphasized the necessity of respecting Syrian sovereignty and territorial integrity, calling for the lifting of sanctions imposed on Syria.

The Council, in its 46th extraordinary meeting held today Thursday, expressed its support for efforts aimed at achieving a comprehensive political transition that meets Syrians' aspirations for stability, development, and dignified living.

The Council clarified in its statement: "In light of current developments in Syria and Lebanon, the GCC Ministerial Council held its extraordinary meeting in Kuwait, chaired by Kuwaiti Foreign Minister Abdullah Ali Al-Yahya, the current chairman of the Ministerial Council, and affirmed that Syria's security and stability are fundamental pillars of regional security stability."

The Council urged all Syrian parties and components to intensify their efforts, prioritize the supreme interest, maintain national unity, and adopt an inclusive national dialogue to achieve the Syrian people's aspirations for security and prosperity, welcoming the UN Secretary-General's proposal to form a UN mission to support and sponsor the transitional phase in Syria.

The Council referred to the contents of the Arab Ministerial Contact Committee's document on Syria from December 14, 2024, in Aqaba, regarding supporting UN efforts in assisting Syrians.

The Ministerial Council declared that "the Golan Heights is Syrian Arab land," condemning settlement expansion in the region.

Regarding Lebanon, the Ministerial Council reviewed its firm positions on supporting its sovereignty, security, stability, and territorial integrity, calling for implementing comprehensive political and economic reforms.

Concerning Gaza, the Ministerial Council renewed its support for the Palestinian people and their legitimate rights, expressing hope for the success of Qatari-Egyptian-American mediation for the release of detainees.

More than 100 high school students from across the Kingdom of Bahrain took part in the hackathon, which featured an intensive programme of training workshops and hands-on sessions.
