Ilham Ahmed Calls for an End to the Seizure of Residents’ Property in Afrin
إلهام أحمد تدعو إلى وقف الاستيلاء على ممتلكات الأهالي في عفرين

Kurdish politician Ilham Ahmed called for an end to the seizure of homes and land in Afrin and its surrounding villages, saying that the continued presence of armed fighters from outside the area is hindering displaced residents from returning to their homes.

In a statement to North Press Agency on Thursday, October 29, 2026, Ahmed said the return of displaced people was one of the outcomes of the integration agreement with the Syrian state. She added that residents face violations including the seizure of homes, farmland and olive harvests, the imposition of illegal fees, and restrictions on local residents.

Ahmed said the continued appropriation of residents’ property is preventing some displaced people from returning. She noted that some returnees have had to rent homes because they have been unable to reclaim their own.

Ahmed held the Ministry of Defense and security agencies responsible for protecting civilians, maintaining security and ending the violations. She called on them to address residents’ complaints, resolve outstanding cases and restore property to its rightful owners.
