Trump and Netanyahu Seek Stability in Syria and Possible Normalization with Israel
ترامب ونتنياهو

U.S. President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu discussed the situation in Syria during their meeting at the White House, addressing issues related to normalization, lifting sanctions, and security and stability after the fall of the Assad regime.

Trump hosted Netanyahu on Monday in their third direct meeting since Trump assumed the presidency of the United States in January.

In a joint press conference, Trump expressed admiration for the new Syrian president, Ahmed Assad, noting that the Syrians possess high energy and efficiency. He emphasized that lifting sanctions on Syria provides a chance for reconstruction, asserting that this step is necessary for Syria to recover and move toward stability.

Trump also referred to his Gulf visits in May and meetings with regional leaders, affirming that cooperation between Washington and neighboring countries of Israel is going very well, with hope for positive changes in the region.

For his part, Netanyahu stated that there is currently a possibility to examine normalization with Syria, considering that Syria would benefit greatly if it prepares for this path. He pointed out that Iran previously controlled Syria, but now there is potential for stability and peace, expressing hope to expand the Abraham Accords.

In a different context, recent reports have emerged about direct contacts between Syria and Israel, which have turned into official statements—particularly after Israeli National Security Adviser Tzachi Hanegbi mentioned overseeing a political and security dialogue with the Syrian government.

Reuters revealed, citing informed sources, that Syria and Israel have held face-to-face meetings in recent weeks aimed at de-escalating security tensions and preventing escalation in the buffer zone. These efforts are supported by clear U.S. backing for dialogue and encouraging communication between the two sides, along with a reduction in Israeli military operations in Syria.
