Two Police Officers Killed and Another Injured in Armed Attack on Police Station in Izmir, Turkey

Two Turkish police officers were killed and another wounded this morning, Monday, during an armed attack targeting a police station in the Balçova district of the coastal city of Izmir in western Turkey, according to local media reports.
Turkish channel (NTV) reported that the attacker, believed to be a 16-year-old teenager, used a rifle owned by his father to shoot at the Selçuk Eşgi Police Station in the area. He was immediately arrested after the attack.
The channel indicated that the incident does not appear to be a terrorist act, as the attacker had previously been arrested on criminal charges and later released. He also claimed to have been subjected to mistreatment during his detention.
The Turkish Interior Ministry clarified that the suspect was arrested shortly after the attack was carried out, and authorities are currently investigating the incident with him.
Turkish Interior Minister, Ali Yerlikaya, confirmed via Instagram that the authorities have apprehended the perpetrator and that investigations are ongoing.
Security forces imposed a tight security cordon around the police station and took extensive security measures in the area. It is worth noting that Izmir, Turkey’s third largest city located on the Aegean Sea coast, has experienced previous armed attacks, including a car bomb attack in 2017 outside a courthouse that resulted in two deaths.
