Deir ez-Zor: Family Clashes Result in Two Deaths and Injuries
دير الزور 1

A armed clash between two families and random gunfire in the villages of Al-Azbah and Al-Hari in Deir ez-Zor countryside led to the death of two people and injuries to others. The tension in the region continues to escalate. According to local news networks, the clashes erupted yesterday, Sunday, in the village of Al-Areba northeast of Deir ez-Zor, due to a dispute over the ownership of an oil well in the area. Despite attempts by civilians to resolve the conflict, the confrontations resumed, resulting in casualties amid ongoing high tension.

In a related incident, three people were injured in the village of Al-Hari east of Deir ez-Zor due to random gunfire during a lunar eclipse, a recurring event in the region. Internal security forces intervened immediately, calling through loudspeakers to stop the shooting, confiscated the threatening weapons, and began pursuing the shooters.

Firearms are widely spread across Deir ez-Zor province for years, due to the unstable security conditions the region has experienced. The area has witnessed unprecedented chaos during periods of control by the Syrian regime, Iranian militias, and extremist groups, especially ISIS. Deir ez-Zor has turned into an open battlefield for conflicts and arms smuggling, leading to the proliferation of small and medium weapons among civilians and tribes. This has resulted in increased incidents of internal fighting and the loss of community stability.

Weapons have been used in local disputes and to reinforce the influence of conflicting parties, deepening the suffering of the residents and worsening the security situation. After the fall of the regime, Syrian authorities launched campaigns to confiscate illegal weapons and pursue remnants and wanted individuals from militias, aiming to establish stability and reduce security chaos in the region.
