Medvedev Warns of European Conspiracy Amid Recent Moscow-Washington Thaw

Amid the recent rapprochement between Moscow and Washington, as U.S. President Donald Trump seeks to end the Russian-Ukrainian war, Russian Security Council Deputy Chairman Dmitry Medvedev has warned of a European conspiracy.

In statements made today, Wednesday, Medvedev, an ally of Russian President Vladimir Putin, claimed that "a global conspiracy is being plotted against Trump in Europe, which could lead to dire consequences and even a crisis within NATO." He also deemed the plans by French President Emmanuel Macron and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer for a settlement in Ukraine as unfeasible, adding that "the truce they propose is merely a respite for the Kyiv regime," referring to a previous French suggestion of a potential one-month ceasefire between the Russian and Ukrainian sides.

Furthermore, Medvedev stated that "ending the war means the inevitable end of the Kyiv regime," alluding to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky's administration. He emphasized that his country's primary goal is to "inflict a major defeat on the enemy on the ground."

Regarding Trump's temporary suspension of military aid to Kyiv, he viewed it as a "symbolic and temporary" measure, adding that following the signing of a mineral agreement, U.S. arms supplies are likely to resume.

These remarks followed Trump's speech to Congress in which he confirmed that Zelensky had indicated a willingness to return to the negotiating table with Russia, noting he received a positive signal from Moscow regarding negotiations.

The comments also coincided with French government spokeswoman Sophie Briman's announcement today that France is working to re-establish ties between the United States and Ukraine to achieve "lasting and robust peace." She added in statements to LCI television, "We proposed a truce being studied within the context of negotiations with Washington."

Earlier, Macron had stated that Paris and London are suggesting a partial ceasefire for one month between Russia and Ukraine, as part of European diplomatic efforts aimed at bolstering Western support for Kyiv after a heated exchange during the meeting between the Ukrainian and American presidents in the Oval Office last Friday.
