Syrian actress Sulaf Fawakherji revealed that she and her family received direct death threats following the collapse of former Syrian President Bashar al-Assad’s regime.
In an interview with the Egyptian TV program Asrar on Al-Nahar channel, Fawakherji stated that she received a message on her mobile phone containing her home address along with a warning that individuals were on their way to carry out the threat. She noted that she could not verify the source or seriousness of the message but chose to take it seriously and implement necessary precautions.
She added that she quickly left her home to ensure the safety of her family and neighbors, prompting her to relocate to Egypt as a precautionary measure. However, she emphasized that Syria remains her homeland and that no one has the right to prevent her from returning. She insisted on going back, as she had committed no crime nor harmed anyone.
Regarding her stance on former Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, she remarked, "He had his merits and his faults, and history alone will judge," refusing to use harsh descriptions against him.
As for the interim Syrian president, Ahmed Al-Sharaa, she expressed a balanced viewpoint, stating, "We hope he brings good to the country and its people. Some are optimistic, while others remain cautious, which is natural. The most important thing is for words to translate into tangible reality."
Responding to ongoing speculation about her religion, Fawakherji expressed surprise at the persistent curiosity, affirming that she interacts with people based on love and respect. She added, "When my name is Sulaf Mohammed Fawakherji, and my children’s names are Hamza and Ali, is there really a need for this question?"
