Trump: Ukraine Gave Putin a Pretext to Continue Heavy Attacks
Former U.S. President Donald Trump accused Ukraine of providing Russian President Vladimir Putin with a "pretext" to maintain intense bombing operations against his country. In comments reported by Western media, Trump said: “They gave Putin an excuse to launch a severe attack last night... I didn’t like that. When I saw what happened, I thought to myself: here comes the strike.”
Trump also expressed hope that Russia would not halt negotiations to resolve the Ukrainian conflict, warning that “the situation could deteriorate to the point of triggering a nuclear war,” according to him.
In the same context, Trump revealed that he had asked President Putin not to respond to Ukrainian attacks on Russian airports, and confirmed that he understands Putin’s position regarding Kyiv’s recent assaults on Russian airbases.

From the Oval Office, Trump stated: “I told Putin: don’t do that. You shouldn’t do that.” He added: “Putin told me he would respond to the aggressive Ukrainian attack on Russian territory, and he explained that Russia has no choice but to retaliate.”
Last Wednesday, Trump announced that he had a phone call with Putin that lasted an hour and 15 minutes. He wrote on his “Truth Social” account that: “I just finished a call with Russian President Vladimir Putin; the call lasted an hour and a quarter.” He continued: “During the discussion, we addressed the attack by Ukraine on Russian aircraft, along with other various attacks from both sides.”
Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin stated that all crimes committed against Russian civilians in the days preceding the second round of Russia-Ukraine negotiations aimed to sabotage the talks, emphasizing that Kyiv’s authorities lack even a minimal level of political culture and national awareness.
