Amid the recent escalation of tensions between the Syrian government and the Syrian Democratic Forces (#SDF), a senior Kurdish official from the Autonomous Administration in North and East Syria confirmed that negotiations between the two sides have not ceased, and that the door remains open for dialogue as the only way to achieve political solutions.

Badran Jiya Kurd, the Deputy Co-Chair of Foreign Relations in the Autonomous Administration, told exclusive statements to that “relations and negotiations with Damascus are ongoing, and there is no way forward except understanding and mutual agreement,” stressing that reaching long-term agreements remains a primary goal that should align with the aspirations of the Syrian people and serve the country’s higher interests.

He added that discussions are continuously underway regarding the March 10 agreement, which was signed by Commander Mazloum Abdi and President Bashar Assad to lay the foundations for internal stability. He pointed out that all parties are looking forward to positive results that reflect a suitable national consensus.

Jiya Kurd emphasized that time is an important factor, but building a stable strategic consensus based on national and collective interests is more crucial. He also highlighted that the ongoing threat from ISIS (#Daesh) adds to the necessity of completing a comprehensive national dialogue that ensures the participation of all Syrian components in decision-making, ultimately leading to a decentralized democratic pluralistic state that guarantees the rights of everyone.

Despite the Self-Administration’s rejection of the results of the upcoming parliamentary elections scheduled for next month and their previous positions condemning these results, negotiations to implement the provisions of the March 10 agreement are still ongoing. This agreement aims to integrate civilian and military institutions in the northern region within the framework of the state, recognizing the Kurdish presence in Syria for the first time, and addresses issues such as division, ceasefire, and the distribution of powers.

In the context of international efforts, a French diplomatic source told العربية.نت that France is exerting intense efforts to bridge the gap between the two sides, with ongoing support for SDF, which has received continuous French backing for years. French President Emmanuel Macron has hosted delegations from the Syrian Democratic Council (SDC) several times, and France has supported initiatives to de-escalate tensions and reduce escalation.

The disagreements remain over the shape of governance after the fall of Bashar Assad’s regime. SDF outright rejects the formation of a new army or the adoption of the “Constitutional Declaration” of the new administration. The group insists on maintaining its autonomy within the Syrian military institution and demands clear representation of its components in all political and military structures, amid ongoing disagreements about the nature of the regime and the future of governance in Syria.
