A child kidnapping in Latakia sparks widespread outrage and concern
On Wednesday morning, the city of Latakia witnessed one of the most prominent abduction incidents in recent times. Unknown gunmen in a silver Santa Fe vehicle kidnapped 14-year-old Mohammad Qais Haidar while he was heading to his school, "Jamal Dawood," in the Al-Mashrou' Al-Ashar neighborhood, in front of passersby and students.
According to eyewitnesses, the gunmen got out of the car, forcibly kidnapped the child, and then fled to an unknown destination. This incident caused widespread panic and anger among residents, who expressed their dissatisfaction with the repeated occurrence of such events that threaten the safety and security of the community.
Mohammad Qais Haidar is the son of university professor Qais Haidar and teacher Mona Haidar. He is one of the victims of this horrific incident.
In follow-up, the Syrian Ministry of Interior confirmed that the Internal Security leadership in Latakia is directly following the investigation. It issued instructions to the relevant authorities for swift action, gathering evidence and information to identify the perpetrators. The efforts to search for and pursue the kidnappers are ongoing around the clock to ensure the child's release and restore safety to his family.
Meanwhile, the Political Council in Central and Western Syria issued a statement condemning the incident, viewing it as an attack on the educational process and community security. They blamed the regime militias responsible and called for suspending school activities and declaring a strike on Thursday in solidarity with the child and his family.
Amid deteriorating security conditions, there is widespread anger and outrage among the people of Latakia, with urgent demands for the perpetrators to be quickly identified to ensure the child's safe return.
