Bashir Announces Appointment as Head of the Transitional Government in Syria: A Step Towards Stability

Mohammad Al-Bashir, who has been officially appointed as the head of the transitional government in Syria, announced his readiness to assume governmental duties until March 1, 2025. This announcement was made during his first meeting, where he emphasized the importance of transferring executive powers to ensure the continuity of government operations.
Al-Bashir explained that today's meeting included the ministers of the Rescue Government and members of the previous Cabinet, and addressed the transfer of files and tasks among ministers to facilitate smooth business operations.
In a related context, Syria witnessed the official collapse of President Bashar al-Assad's regime last Sunday, as announced by armed factions and the head of the Syrian government. Reports indicate that Bashar al-Assad fled the capital Damascus to an unknown destination.
In a statement by Dr. Jalal Qnass, an assistant professor at the College of Economics at Qatar University, he pointed out the difficulty of assessing the economic situation in Syria during this critical period, reaffirming that the country suffers from an unstable security situation, which increases uncertainty about the future of the local currency, the Syrian pound.
Qnass stated, "The economic situation is experiencing collapse, as economic institutions have deteriorated since the start of the war, in addition to issues related to corruption, income distribution, poverty, and unemployment." He confirmed that all state institutions, including financial and economic sectors, have been devastated, along with the agricultural and industrial sectors.
Qnass continued his remarks in an interview with "Al Arabiya Business," stressing that the current phase requires rebuilding trust in the Syrian economy. He added, "Restoring security and political stability will be the main focus of this phase, alongside fostering trust among members of the Syrian community and rebuilding essential institutions in education, health, and infrastructure."
