Car Bombing in Al-Hasakah Claims the Lives of Two Syrian Democratic Forces Members
A car explosion in the Al-Salihiyah neighborhood of Al-Hasakah, northern Syria, resulted in the deaths of two members of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), with no immediate information available regarding the perpetrators of the attack.
On Tuesday, November 12, the Internal Security Forces (Asayish) affiliated with the Autonomous Administration stated that unidentified "hostile" entities carried out the explosion using a Hyundai vehicle belonging to the "Wounded Warriors Home" near the Life Directorate in Al-Hasakah.
Asayish suggested in a statement published on its official website that the explosion was likely caused by an explosive device connected to a remote control mechanism, indicating that the vehicle was carrying three SDF personnel at the time of the attack, two of whom were fatalities from previous battles against the Islamic State. The driver of the vehicle was also killed.
Local correspondents reported that the explosion occurred on the main street in Al-Salihiyah near the Water Directorate in Al-Hasakah on Monday evening.
As of the time of this report, no group has claimed responsibility for the attack. This incident marks the second of its kind this year; in May, there was a previous car explosion within the secure area of Al-Hasakah.
The Islamic State group is often responsible for such attacks; however, security precautions taken by the SDF and the Syrian regime in both Qamishli and Al-Hasakah have minimized the occurrence of these incidents.
Earlier this year, Islamic State operations targeted areas in Syria that had remained free from such actions for years, including an attack on an employee of the Autonomous Administration in the Mufti neighborhood of Al-Hasakah.
The group's activities have also extended to the city of al-Sukhnah in eastern Homs, a region historically focused on by the organization. Additionally, areas under SDF control are periodically subjected to Turkish airstrikes targeting SDF leaders and members.
Turkey has increasingly targeted vehicles in both Al-Hasakah and Qamishli, as well as the routes connecting them, leading to the deaths of SDF leaders and members of the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), which Turkey designates as a terrorist organization operating along its southern border in Syria.
