Child Killed and Five People Injured in Tribal Clashes in Al-Sukhnah, Eastern Homs
A seven-year-old child was killed and five other people sustained varying degrees of injury in armed clashes between members of the Al-Maharisha and Al-Masabih clans, both affiliated with the Al-Amour tribe, in the city of Al-Sukhnah in eastern rural Homs.
The clashes erupted over a dispute concerning ownership of a plot of land and quickly escalated into the use of machine guns, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights. Several people were injured, including the child, who later succumbed to his wounds. The injured were taken to nearby medical centers and hospitals for treatment.
Following the incident, Al-Sukhnah witnessed a state of tension and heightened alert, amid fears that the clashes could resume and spread. Residents called on security authorities and the Badia Security Forces to intervene urgently, deploy personnel at the site of the dispute, restore calm, and prevent further gunfire.
According to figures released by the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, the number of family and tribal clashes in areas controlled by the Syrian interim government has risen to 104 since the beginning of the current year. These clashes have resulted in 90 deaths and 192 injuries, including 183 men, eight women, and one child.
The incidents were distributed as follows:
- Deir ez-Zor: 31 clashes, resulting in the deaths of 17 men and injuries to 32 people, including 30 men and two women.
- Aleppo: 20 clashes, resulting in the deaths of 22 people, including one woman, and injuries to 28 others, including 25 men, two women, and one child.
- Daraa: 14 clashes, resulting in the deaths of six men and injuries to 24 people, including 20 men and four women.
- Idlib: 12 clashes, resulting in the deaths of nine people, including one woman, and injuries to 22 men.
- Homs: Five clashes, resulting in the deaths of four people, including one man, two children, and one woman, and injuries to 19 men.
- Rural Damascus: Six clashes, resulting in the deaths of 11 people, including nine men and two women, and injuries to 23 men.
- Hasakah: Four clashes, resulting in the deaths of five men and injuries to eight others.
- Raqqa: Four clashes, resulting in the deaths of six people and injuries to 10 men.
- Hama: Three clashes, resulting in the deaths of two people and injuries to five others.
- Quneitra: Two clashes, resulting in the deaths of two men.
- Sweida: Two clashes, resulting in the deaths of five men and injuries to one person.
- Latakia: One clash, resulting in the death of one person and injuries to 20 others.
