Devastating Explosion in Rural Idlib: 7 Killed and Over 100 Injured in Ammunition Depot Blast
انفجار مروّع في ريف إدلب: 7 قتلى وأكثر من 100 مصاب بانفجار مستودع ذخائر

In yet another tragic incident highlighting the fragile security situation in northern Syria, seven people were killed and over 100 others injured on Thursday following a massive explosion at an ammunition depot near the town of Maarrat Misrin in Idlib countryside. Local reports suggest that some individuals may still be trapped under the rubble.

According to Dr. Samer Arabi, Director of Idlib Health Directorate, the explosion caused significant damage to nearby residential camps, resulting in a high number of casualties. The injured were distributed among several hospitals and medical facilities in the region:

🏥 71 injuries at Maarrat Misrin Hospital

🏥 26 injuries at Idlib University Hospital

🏥 6 injuries at Al-'Iyadat Hospital

🏥 3 injuries at Al-Shifa Hospital

The Syrian Civil Defense (White Helmets) also reported that six of its technical staff members were injured while working at a tailoring facility operated by the organization in the area of the explosion.

Earlier today, local sources told Syria TV that the explosion involved war remnants and munitions stored in a weapons depot. The blast triggered a series of consecutive explosions, spreading panic among civilians and prompting a large-scale deployment of emergency teams and rescue units.

Several wounded individuals were transported to the SAMs Surgical Hospital in Maarrat Misrin. Meanwhile, Syria TV’s correspondent reported the possible collapse of a nearby residential building, raising concerns about people being buried under the debris.

Warnings Against Civilian Access
Humanitarian organizations and medical teams have issued strong warnings to civilians to avoid approaching the site due to the continued detonation of unexploded ordnance, which poses a severe threat to both residents and rescue workers.

This incident underscores the ongoing dangers posed by unsecured weapons stockpiles and highlights the urgent need for demining and risk education efforts across conflict-affected areas in Syria.
