The Ministry of Health in Gaza announced on Monday the recording of five new deaths, all adults, due to starvation and malnutrition over the past 24 hours. This brings the total number of famine-related deaths in the area to 180, including 93 children.

The Ministry of Health stated in a Facebook post that the humanitarian situation in Gaza is continually deteriorating, with the ongoing blockade and shortages of food and medical supplies. It urged the international community and relief organizations to take immediate and urgent measures to address the worsening crisis.

The United Nations considers Gaza on the brink of famine, with Israel monitoring all border crossings into the coastal strip, which is located on the Mediterranean Sea. These crossings have been completely or partially blocked from delivering humanitarian aid for several months.

The UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) warned that malnutrition among children under five had doubled between March and June due to the ongoing blockade and the declining humanitarian situation.

Additionally, the World Health Organization confirmed that malnutrition rates in Gaza have reached alarming levels. It pointed out that deliberate blockades and delays in aid have caused significant human losses, with nearly one in five children under five suffering from severe malnutrition.

Efforts to deliver aid by air are underway, with several Arab and foreign countries conducting aerial drops into Gaza. However, international organizations have indicated that such operations are very costly and that the quantities of aid delivered by air are much less than those transported via land convoys.

The Israeli military campaign on Gaza continues and has so far resulted in the killing and injury of over 209,000 people, most of whom are children and women. The conflict has also left more than 11,000 people missing, with hundreds of thousands displaced and a famine claiming many lives.
