France Calls on Israel to "Immediately Withdraw" from Lebanon
On Friday, France expressed its strong condemnation of Israel's recent airstrikes on the southern suburbs of Beirut and called on Israel to "withdraw immediately from all Lebanese territories." This was stated in a statement issued by the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The French Foreign Ministry announced that Israel carried out at night Thursday the most intense airstrikes since the ceasefire agreement in November 2024, targeting Hezbollah strongholds. France further warned that Israel would continue its strikes if the Lebanese state did not take steps to disarm the party.
The statement emphasized that France "urges all parties to respect and adhere to the ceasefire agreement," highlighting the importance of the monitoring mechanism stipulated in the deal, which aims to assist the parties in facing threats and preventing any escalation that could endanger the security and stability of Lebanon and Israel.
The French Foreign Ministry also reaffirmed that the primary responsibility for dismantling unauthorized military sites across Lebanese territory lies with the Lebanese armed forces, backed by the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL).
Meanwhile, Lebanese President Michel Aoun condemned the "blatant violation" of the ceasefire following the airstrikes on southern Beirut, expressing his concern and rejection of these actions that threaten Lebanon’s security and stability.
