Iran continues to support Syrian regime forces

After Hay'at Tahrir al-Sham and its allied armed factions took control of the city of Aleppo, Syria's second largest city, Iranian officials reaffirmed their continued support for the Syrian government. They referred to what is known as the "Resistance Axis," emphasizing their commitment to standing alongside the Syrian army and Tehran-aligned factions.
Recently, Iran has sought to mobilize fighters to support the Syrian forces, deploying personnel from Hezbollah and Iraqi factions within Syrian territory, according to soldiers and commanders cited by The Washington Post. However, Hezbollah faces significant challenges following the deterioration of its position due to the intense conflict with Israel over the past three months, making its influence on the dynamics of the Syrian conflict uncertain.
While Iraqi militias can fill some gaps, their training is inferior to that of Hezbollah, and their ammunition and weapons are not at the same level. Members of Hezbollah confirmed that they will remain allies of Iran and are prepared to fight should their orders change, as the group's forces have significantly deployed towards the cities of Hama and Homs.
At the same time, Iraqi leaders noted that most of their fighters are located in eastern Syria, exploiting the chaos to control villages near Deir Ezzor. This comes as sources familiar with Hezbollah's plans indicated that the group currently has no intention of sending fighters to northern Syria, as they have not been requested to do so at this stage.
It is worth noting that Hezbollah has suffered significant losses since last September due to Israeli escalations targeting senior leadership, resulting in the deaths of several prominent figures within the group.
