Laith Al-Balious: We Have No Need for External Guardianship
علم الدروز

Laith Al-Balious, the leader of the "Men of Dignity" movement, revealed new developments regarding the events in the city of Jaramana in the Damascus countryside on Sunday, following recent security tensions in the area.

Al-Balious clarified that what happened in Jaramana was not a clash between security forces and armed groups, but rather a personal altercation that escalated unexpectedly, emphasizing both the movement's and the residents’ rejection of these events.

He confirmed that current efforts are focused on de-escalation, through coordination with security leadership and local elders, to ensure stability in the region.

In an interview with "Al-Arabiya TV," Al-Balious indicated that the movement is working on establishing new coordination mechanisms with security agencies, which would allow the residents of Jaramana to actively participate in maintaining the security of their city and to contain any attempts to disrupt stability.

Regarding Israeli comments about "protecting the Druze in Syria," the leader of "Men of Dignity" stressed the movement's rejection of any form of external guardianship, reaffirming their commitment to a national stance against any divisive projects.

Al-Balious also reiterated the movement's position based on the principles of its founder, Sheikh Waheed Al-Balious, stating that Syria is their only homeland and that they are willing to make sacrifices to preserve its unity and independence.

On another note, on Saturday evening, a delegation including leaders from local factions in the Suwayda province arrived in Jaramana to lead negotiations with the Syrian government and mitigate tensions.

Our correspondent reported that the Suwayda factions' delegation, which included Laith Al-Balious and Suleiman Abd Al-Baqi, came to Jaramana to participate in de-escalation negotiations.

Our correspondent confirmed that there are ongoing efforts to de-escalate in Jaramana, led by the elders and notable figures of the city, in cooperation with the Syrian government, following renewed clashes on Saturday evening and incidents that occurred in the city on Friday.

It is worth mentioning that the Israeli occupation has recently reiterated its statements regarding its eagerness to protect the Druze in Syria, in an attempt to find a new justification for its intervention in the country following a decline in Iranian threats.
