Ministry of Information Launches "Script" Conference in Aleppo Amid Criticism from City Journalists

The Syrian Ministry of Information inaugurated the "Script" digital conference in Aleppo under the slogan "Influencers for Syria," with the participation of hundreds of Syrian and Arab content creators and influencers. The event aims to promote dialogue about digital media and its importance in societal stability and rebuilding social cohesion.
In response, Aleppo’s journalists issued a statement condemning their deliberate exclusion by the conference organizers, despite their sacrifices and ongoing efforts to portray the suffering of Syrians over the past years. They regarded this neglect as part of a systematic policy of exclusion and marginalization practiced by the Ministry of Information against Syrian journalists.
They also held the ministry fully responsible for the "failure of the conference" to represent the true voice of the city and its martyrs.
The Aleppo journalists concluded their statement reaffirming their commitment to the message of free national media and rejecting any attempts to turn Syrian media into superficial fronts lacking credibility.
Regarding the conference, Kyseri Al-Masry, head of the influencers and content creators department at the ministry, pointed out that digital media has become a fundamental element in consolidating stability and enhancing community partnership. He emphasized that raising awareness is a national responsibility entrusted to content creators because of their direct access to a broad audience.
On his part, Aleppo’s media director, Abdel Karim Layla, described the conference as the largest of its kind in the city. He viewed it as a platform to showcase Syrian success stories and launch initiatives highlighting the country’s ability to overcome challenges, with a focus on general Syrian issues and conveying a positive image of the present and future.
However, the conference’s activities sparked widespread controversy just hours after its launch. Activists criticized the excessive spending on promotional events, asserting that the difficult living conditions of Syrians deserve more attention than spending large sums on media activities that do not reflect citizens' everyday reality.
