A Name Written in Gold
The 800-meter race is considered one of the most intense and exciting track events, where victory is often decided by fractions of a second. However, Naya Abbas proved that determination and resolve are more important than time, etching her name in gold—a proud reflection of challenge and the ability to achieve despite fierce competition.
Her victory is not only a personal triumph but also a message of hope to the homeland, demonstrating that passion and perseverance turn seconds into history and fleeting moments into everlasting accomplishments.
Syria's Achievements in the Championship
With this success, Syria strengthened its presence in the tournament, raising its medal tally to seven—three golds and four silvers—bringing the total medals to 11 as the competition concluded on Friday, part of a tournament extending until the 5th of this month.
Global and Regional Competitions
The championship is held at the Camille Chamoun Sports City and the Audience Club in Beirut, under the patronage of Lebanese Minister of Youth and Sports, Dr. Noura Bayrakdarian, with oversight from the Asian and West Asian federations. Nine countries participated: Syria, Qatar, Kuwait, UAE, Yemen, Jordan, Palestine, Iraq, and Lebanon.
The tournament is a significant step in preparing for the Under 20 World Athletics Championship, scheduled to take place in Oregon, USA, next year.
Praise and Support
In a statement, Syrian Athletics Federation President Mohamed Al-Daem affirmed that the national team was well-prepared through intensive training programs. He emphasized that the goal is to compete for top positions and elevate Syria's name on regional and international stages.
The Syrian sports family congratulated the federation and the technical staff, calling for increased support and the organization of external training camps to enhance players' capabilities and ensure ongoing achievements and presence on the global podiums.
