Netanyahu Rejects Ceasefire Proposal in Gaza
نيتنياهو

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu rejected a proposal for a five-year ceasefire in the Gaza Strip in exchange for the simultaneous release of Israeli prisoners, according to Israeli political and media sources on Monday.

This rejection comes amid escalating military actions in Gaza, where Israel, with U.S. support, is accused of committing acts of genocide since October 7, 2023, resulting in the death and injury of more than 171,000 Palestinians, including a significant number of children and women, in addition to over 11,000 missing persons.

An unnamed Israeli political source revealed in a press statement that some Arab countries had proposed ideas that included a ceasefire lasting five years. However, he added that there is no hope for an agreement on a truce with Hamas, which is said to allow it to continue its "war against Israel with greater intensity."

In other updates, the Israeli Broadcasting Authority (official) reported that sources from Hamas indicated that the movement’s delegation in Doha and Cairo proposed a comprehensive vision that includes a five-year ceasefire along with a simultaneous exchange of prisoners.

Tel Aviv claims that there are 59 Israeli captives held in the Gaza Strip, 24 of whom are still alive, while over 9,900 Palestinians are held in Israeli prisons suffering from mistreatment, torture, and starvation, leading to the deaths of many of them, according to human rights and media reports from both sides.

The Hamas proposal includes a complete withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza, reconstruction of the area, lifting the blockade imposed on it, and a return to the situation that existed before March 2. The proposal also stipulates the establishment of an independent local committee to manage Gaza’s affairs.

As of 14:10 GMT, no official comments had been issued by the parties involved regarding the reports mentioned.
