Palestine Yesterday and Today... and the Disloyal Role of the Iranian Regime
فلسطين

What happened at the United Nations regarding the partial recognition of the Palestinian right to an independent state representing them and restoring their stolen rights is neither a gift nor a favor from the international community, which ignored the suffering of the Palestinians, their land, and their usurped state—given to savage human beings by colonial powers seeking to eliminate them, offering what they do not possess and neglecting history and values. The UN itself participated in the process of depriving Palestinians of their lives and rights, whether through complacency or negligence. Therefore, what occurred within the halls of the UN did not reflect its values but resulted from the circumstances and events that led to this recognition, which will remain incomplete; anyone who sought to kill Oslo will also seek to destroy what happened at the UN to restore Palestinian rights.

What has happened and is ongoing in Palestine is not something new or recent; it is a continued suffering for nearly a century and two decades, filled with genocide, killing, destruction, theft of property, and displacement. The events in Gaza exposed past and present crimes, including those committed by colonizers who looted Palestine and handed it over to militant groups. History does not wrong anyone, and it now justly examines the Palestinian people, and the free peoples of the world stand in solidarity—a stance no one expected after witnessing the killing, burning, and starvation of children. The entire world supported the Palestinian cause except those in Iran, who see the Palestinian issue only as a means to serve their own interests. When France officially recognizes Palestine and joins other countries like Belgium, Malta, Portugal, Luxembourg, and Monaco—raising the number of states recognizing Palestine to over 140 out of 193 UN members, following previous recognitions by Britain, Canada, and Australia—the Iranian regime remains among the states not recognizing the state of Palestine, justifying such stance with flimsy reasons and showing no solidarity with the afflicted Palestinian people. In reality, this regime is secretly or overtly aligned with the occupier, who now arrogantly claims to be the truth, considering the historical Palestine merely an illusion. It’s no surprise that the Iranian clerics’ stance is aligned with this, as their former foreign minister once admitted to an agreement with the occupation authorities in Palestine. The agreement between Iran’s ruling mullahs and the occupying forces in Palestine is not only in terms of religious claims and divine representation but also in expansionist, racist, and hegemonic approaches.

International Support Stances
As Palestinian patriots, we hold mixed feelings of hope and anger regarding the recent UN General Assembly conference in New York, co-chaired by Saudi Arabia and France, which took serious steps toward peacefully resolving the Palestinian issue and implementing a two-state solution. French President Emmanuel Macron’s description of Palestine recognition in an interview with CBS was realistic, as he called it “the beginning of a political process for peace and security,” outlining subsequent steps including ceasefire, hostage release, reopening humanitarian corridors, and rebuilding Gaza. Other European leaders expressed support for the two-state solution, including Belgium’s Prime Minister Bart De Wever, Luxembourg’s Prime Minister Luc Frieden, and Malta’s Prime Minister Robert Abela. Portugal’s Foreign Minister Paulo Rangel called the decision “historic,” and Britain, which handed Palestine over to the Israeli occupation, described the recognition as “a step toward a better future.” Spain, with the strongest position, demanded full UN membership for Palestine. Meanwhile, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres reiterated that establishing a Palestinian state is a fundamental condition for achieving peace in the Middle East—a stance rooted in a fair historical understanding and a harsh experience with the international community, which Guterres seeks to tame.

Popular Support in Europe
On a popular level, massive protests took place in Italian cities like Milan, Turin, Florence, Naples, Bari, and Palermo in support of Palestine. Ports in Genoa and Livorno were closed by port workers in protest against Gaza’s situation. In London, the Palestinian flag was raised in front of the Palestinian Representation Office, following similar actions in Spain and other European countries. These intense protests are a reaction to the ongoing international complacency, which is expected to continue even if Palestine formally gains recognition—an acknowledgment that requires respect, adherence to laws, norms, and international charters. The scenes in Gaza indicate that the road ahead will not be easy, as Macron hinted.

The Betrayal by the Iranian Clerical Regime
The ruling mullah regime in Iran has been propagating slogans claiming support for the Palestinian cause for decades, presenting itself as the protector and defender of the Palestinian people in their quest for Jerusalem’s liberation. These slogans are grandiose but insincere, as their policies have not served Palestinians but instead fragmented the Palestinian national front and harmed their cause. Moreover, this approach, directly or indirectly, has created reasons for the occupier to crush Palestinian hopes of restoring their state and land. The regime has exploited the Palestinian issue as a tool to legitimize its expansionist ambitions and regional dominance, far from
