Sheikh Al-Hajri: Strengthening National Unity in Syria is Our Priority

Sheikh Hikmat Al-Hajri, the spiritual leader of the Druze community in Sweida, affirmed that the project he seeks is a purely national project based on Syrian principles, emphasizing that it is not related to international statements.
These remarks came during Al-Hajri's reception of a delegation from the residents of Jaramana in the Damascus countryside at his residence in the northeastern region of Sweida. He explained in a video clip published by the “Sweida 24” network that "our project revolves around a distinctly national Syria, and we will avoid discussions with those who sing outside this framework."
Al-Hajri emphasized that the priority lies in strengthening the unity of Syria, its land, and its people, regardless of any international agreements. He asserted that the desired goal is to achieve peace and dignity, which he strives for through joint efforts with all the honorable people of Syria from various sects and components.
He added: "We want to live with dignity in our homeland, and we have made progress in this direction. However, today we face a phase of void, which requires us to unify our ranks, both at the sectarian level and nationally in general."
Al-Hajri confirmed that there are no demands for separation or division, clarifying that the members of the sect are Syrians par excellence, and they seek to preserve their traditions and historical national roots.
In conclusion, he noted that the region is witnessing rapid changes, expressing hope that these transformations will benefit its residents.
In a related context, the Israeli Prime Minister's Office recently announced that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has instructed the army to protect the residents of Jaramana, following the tensions in the area amid the Syrian government's increased security control. Netanyahu’s office stated that "Israel will not allow the extremist Islamic regime in Syria to harm the Druze," threatening to respond to any aggressions.
Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant had previously pointed to Israel's significant commitment to the Druze in Syria, while the Prime Minister demanded the evacuation of southern Syria from Syrian military forces, which observers considered an indication of new Israeli movements in the region.
