Start of Azerbaijani Gas Supply to Syria with Qatari Funding to Enhance Energy Security

According to Al Jazeera's correspondent, gas has begun flowing from Azerbaijan to Syria via Turkey, aimed at supporting the country's electricity networks. This gas is expected to be used for power generation at the Aleppo station, with an initial supply of 3.4 million cubic meters per day out of a total of 6 million cubic meters daily, coming from Azerbaijan through Turkey, as part of generous assistance from Qatar.
Syrian Minister of Energy, Muhammad Al-Bashir, confirmed that this new pipeline connects Syria with Azerbaijan via Turkey and is considered a strategic step toward strengthening national energy security. He also explained that this project directly improves electricity supply and increases operating hours at power plants, positively impacting the economic and living conditions in Syria and supporting efforts to return displaced persons to their areas, according to SANA.
Al-Bashir expressed gratitude to the partner countries—Azerbaijan, Turkey, and Qatar—for their "fraternal" support for Syria. He also appreciated Qatar's ongoing assistance to the Syrian people.
The Deputy Minister of Energy, Syria, conveyed thanks to Qatar for its continuous support. He added that the daily gas inflow will generate approximately 900 megawatts of electricity, increasing the operating hours to ten hours daily.
The Syrian Ministry of Energy described the start of supplying Azerbaijani gas via Turkey with Qatari funding as a significant step towards enhancing regional cooperation and supporting infrastructure development in the area.
A ceremony celebrating this achievement was held in Kilis, Turkey, attended by Turkish Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, Alev Erdogan Birkadar, his Syrian counterpart Muhammad Al-Bashir, Azerbaijani Minister of Economy Mikail Jabarov, and the Chairman of the Qatar Fund for Development, Fahad Hamad Al Sulayti, along with representatives from the participating countries.
