Sweida Bleeds: 1,700 Killed and Thousands Missing or Displaced in a Bloody Week
السويداء

Exclusive sources revealed to Sky News Arabia on Saturday shocking figures regarding the recent deadly clashes in Syria’s Sweida province, where violence erupted between Druze factions, government forces, and tribal militias.

According to the sources, preliminary estimates indicate around 1,700 people were killed during the recent events, including 200 members of the General Security and armed Druze factions. The death toll among government forces, army personnel, and tribal fighters is believed to exceed 1,500.

The sources also reported that at least 1,000 individuals are missing, and an additional 700 people from Sweida have been detained, amid widespread fear and media silence.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights had earlier reported a death toll of 1,386 people across all sides involved in the fighting. Meanwhile, Israeli airstrikes during the escalation reportedly killed 15 Syrian government soldiers.

According to a report from the International Organization for Migration (IOM) cited by Agence France-Presse, more than 128,000 people were displaced in a single week of fighting, with 43,000 fleeing in just one day.

The violence began with clashes between Bedouin tribesmen and armed Druze groups, prompting Damascus to deploy forces in an attempt to control the situation. However, tensions escalated further when Israel launched airstrikes targeting government forces in southern Syria, including a strike on the Ministry of Defense in Damascus, justifying the attack as an effort to “protect the Druze” and to ensure southern Syria remains a demilitarized zone.
