Switzerland Strengthens Asset Freezing Measures Against Bashar Al-Assad
الرئيس المخلوع.. بشار الأسد

Switzerland announced its decision to tighten asset freezing measures related to the ousted Syrian president Bashar Al-Assad, having frozen assets valued at approximately 99 million Swiss francs (equivalent to 112.5 million dollars). About two-thirds of these assets are properties belonging to members of the former Assad government and close associates.

In a statement issued on Friday, the Swiss government emphasized its aim to ensure that no assets belonging to the former Assad government are transferred outside the country, regardless of developments regarding imposed sanctions.

It is noteworthy that the attack carried out by opposition factions on December 8, 2024, resulted in the end of the Assad family's decades-long control over power.

Since 2011, Switzerland has swiftly imposed sanctions on Syria, similar to those adopted by the European Union, which include measures to freeze assets. The Swiss government reported that about 99 million Swiss francs have been frozen, with two-thirds of that amount linked to individuals from the former Assad government.
