Syrian Observatory Expresses Concern Over Rights Violations Against Bedouins by Pro-Hijri Groups

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights expressed deep concern over the increasing displacement of families from Bedouin Arab tribes in various areas of Sweida Governorate, due to escalating tensions among local community components. The Observatory also voiced fears that these families might be subjected to violations or potential attacks stemming from these tensions.
It noted that the displacement has affected numerous neighborhoods inhabited by Bedouin tribes, mentioning that local armed groups from the Druze community have besieged some areas where these families are present, including: Al-Maqous, Saha Al-Balatta, Al-Mashourab, Al-Zaytouna, Al-Haroubi, Al-Shuqrawea, Al-Barqaasha, Al-Mansoura, Nabaa Orra, and Al-Mazar'a. The residents there are suffering from an atmosphere of terror and anxiety amid increasing risks of slipping into broader sectarian and regional conflicts.
The Observatory emphasized that any systematic or collective targeting of a specific social component constitutes a serious threat to the unity of Syrian society and raises the likelihood of division and disintegration. It called for urgent efforts to strengthen values of national cohesion, reconciliation, and justice, rather than engaging in revenge or exclusion operations.
In this context, it issued a call to the spiritual authority of the Druze Unitarian sect and all religious elders in Sweida, urging them to take their moral and religious responsibilities seriously. The Observatory asked them to issue clear directives to local fighters to halt any attacks on civilians, work to protect the lives and property of Bedouin tribes, maintain civil peace and social fabric, and prevent exploitation of the escalation by parties seeking to ignite strife or incite discord among community components.
