Yedioth Ahronoth: Israel Considers Employing Druze Workers from Syria
The Israeli newspaper *Yedioth Ahronoth* reported that the Israeli military is considering allowing Druze workers from Syria to enter Israel to work in the agricultural sector, which is suffering from a labor shortage.
According to the newspaper, the proposals under consideration include organizing vocational training programs for Syrians in agriculture, medicine, and emergency services, amid the significant wage gap between Syria and Israel. It noted that a single day’s wages in Israel could equal approximately three months of income from working in Syria, potentially encouraging the recruitment of Syrian workers to meet the needs of farms.
In the same context, the Israeli military is reportedly preparing to organize meetings between Druze relatives living in Syria and Israel. The meetings would be held at a location near the border between the two sides.
These developments come amid Israel’s growing involvement in southern Syria, particularly in Suwayda Governorate, against the backdrop of escalating tensions following the entry of government forces into the province and reports of serious violations against civilians.
