Absence of celebrations for the results of the Tawjihi exams in the West Bank due to fears of Israeli occupation attacks

Unlike previous years, the cities and towns of the West Bank were devoid of the loud celebrations typically associated with the announcement of the Tawjihi (high school diploma) results. Despite the results being announced and students and their families eagerly awaiting this moment, most families chose to limit their congratulations to small, private gatherings, due to concerns over possible reactions or measures by the Israeli occupation forces.
Usually, the West Bank hosts festive scenes following the results, including fireworks displays, street decorations, and family gatherings. However, these practices were almost entirely absent this year. Local residents attribute this to ongoing security escalations and frequent raids carried out by the occupation forces in many cities and refugee camps, which heighten tension and fears of clashes.
Several parents confirmed that the current circumstances prompted them to avoid any activities that might be seen as mass gatherings, prioritizing the safety of their children and family members. They emphasized that the primary concern now is personal security, even if that means forgoing celebrations for a long-awaited educational achievement.
Local sources explained that Israeli forces increased their presence and patrols at city entrances, further fostering a climate of vigilance among residents. Some areas also experienced searches and sudden checkpoints, which restricted movement and limited social activities.
Despite the absence of public celebrations, families expressed their joy through simple, quiet means within their homes, such as sharing sweets or hosting small family gatherings. Residents believe that, although modest, these methods reflect community solidarity and the ability to adapt to difficult conditions.
Citizens hope that future years will bring more secure and stable environments, allowing their children to celebrate their educational achievements freely and safely, without concerns about violence or restrictions on their daily lives.
