Germany Announces €300 Million in Aid for Syria

Germany announced today, Monday, its commitment to provide new assistance to Syria worth €300 million, ahead of the donor conference in Brussels organized by the European Union to raise funds to support Syria after the overthrow of Bashar al-Assad.
In this context, German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock confirmed that this additional aid will enable the United Nations and a number of organizations to implement the necessary support operations within the peace process to assist the Syrian people and the region.
Baerbock emphasized the importance of a comprehensive political process to ensure a peaceful future for Syria, stating: "We stand together as Europeans for the Syrian people and for a free and peaceful Syria." She affirmed that integrating the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) into governmental and security structures is a vital step towards unifying the country.
She outlined the importance of establishing a constitutional declaration to fill the legal void during the transitional phase, noting that more than half of the allocated funds will benefit the Syrian people and will be implemented without the involvement of the Syrian government.
The funds are set to be used to provide food, health services, and emergency shelters, along with protective measures for the most vulnerable groups. Additionally, Syrian refugees and host communities in Jordan, Lebanon, Iraq, and Turkey will receive extra support.
This announcement comes as the European Union holds the donor conference in Brussels, aimed at enhancing international efforts to support Syria and contribute to its reconstruction.
For the first time, representatives of the Syrian government will participate in the conference, with Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shabani representing Syria in Brussels, on the sidelines of a meeting of EU foreign ministers. The 27 countries in Brussels will seek to rally international support for rebuilding Syria, at a time when current ambitions have taken on a different aspect from previous versions that focused solely on providing international aid.
