Head of the Syrian Turkmen Council Calls for Review of Decision on Teaching Turkish as an Elective Subject
Abdul Rahman Mustafa, a member of the People’s Assembly and head of the Syrian Turkmen Council, called on the Ministry of Education to review its decision regarding the teaching of Turkish as an elective subject and to take the necessary measures to ensure that Turkish-language classes continue without interruption.
In a post on X, Mustafa said that continuing to teach Turkish as an elective subject represents a temporary solution during the transitional phase. He stressed that the primary demand is to constitutionally and legally guarantee the linguistic and cultural rights of Syrian Turkmen, foremost among them the right to learn and preserve their language.
Mustafa clarified that calling for the continuation of Turkish-language instruction during the transitional phase does not mean abandoning these demands or accepting any restrictions on the linguistic and cultural rights of the Turkmen community.
