Continued Theft and Vandalism of Telecommunications Cables in Quneitra Amid Israeli Attacks
Israeli forces continue their violations and incursions in southern Syria, raiding a house in the Quneitra countryside and carrying out artillery shelling that targeted agricultural land in the area.
Meanwhile, incidents involving the theft and vandalism of telephone cables continue in Quneitra Governorate, causing direct damage to telecommunications networks and disrupting phone and internet services in several areas. The outages are adversely affecting residents’ daily lives and interests.
These attacks have disrupted citizens’ businesses and services that depend on communications, while increasing the hardship faced by families who require constant contact, particularly older people and patients.
The losses resulting from cable theft are not limited to the value of the stolen materials. They also include damage to infrastructure, as well as the costs of repairing the networks and restoring services to affected areas. Service disruptions may continue for varying periods, depending on the extent and location of the damage.
The recurrence of these incidents raises questions about the level of protection and monitoring provided for telecommunications networks and public service facilities in the governorate, as well as the effectiveness of measures taken to prevent them from being targeted again.
Residents called on the relevant authorities to intensify monitoring of telephone lines and networks, launch serious investigations into the theft and vandalism, hold those responsible accountable, and adopt measures to protect cables and public service facilities.
They also urged residents to cooperate with the authorities and report anyone suspected of cutting or stealing cables, stressing that such practices harm the entire community and place additional burdens on citizens by disrupting their services and daily needs.
