High-Level International Conference at the UN, Co-Chaired by Saudi Arabia and France, Pushes Toward Recognition of Palestine and a Two-State Solution

Today, the United Nations General Assembly in New York hosts the "High-Level International Conference on the Peaceful Settlement of the Question of Palestine and the Implementation of the Two-State Solution," co-chaired by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and France, with broad international and UN participation.

The conference aims to advance a binding political path that reinforces international recognition of the State of Palestine—an essential step toward achieving regional peace and ending one of the world’s longest-standing conflicts. According to sources cited by Al Arabiya.net, the conference builds upon the work of eight specialized committees that have been active since June. These committees include countries such as Spain, Jordan, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Norway, Egypt, the United Kingdom, Turkey, Mexico, Brazil, Senegal, along with the Arab League and the European Union.

The committees are addressing a range of issues concerning the future Palestinian state, including sovereignty, security, economic viability, reconstruction, upholding international law, preserving the two-state solution, and promoting a culture of peace. Special focus is also given to the "Day of Peace" initiative.

The conference is attended by prominent figures, including Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan, French Minister Jean-Noël Barrot, Palestinian Prime Minister Dr. Mohammad Mustafa, and Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman, alongside foreign ministers and diplomats from participating nations. UN Secretary-General António Guterres is also scheduled to deliver a keynote address.

Saudi Arabia has affirmed that its co-chairing of the conference with France reflects its firm and long-standing position on the Palestinian cause, and its ongoing efforts to support the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people. The Kingdom reiterated its commitment to achieving a just and comprehensive peace that ensures the establishment of an independent Palestinian state based on the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.

Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal stated:
“Under the leadership of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz, and the close follow-up of Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman, the Kingdom is exerting all efforts to lay the groundwork for a just peace in the Middle East. This stems from our principled stance in promoting international peace and security, aimed at ending the suffering of the Palestinian people and halting the ongoing cycle of violence and occupation that has claimed the lives of tens of thousands of innocent civilians and fueled hatred across the region and the world.”

The co-chairmanship of Saudi Arabia and France marks a pivotal moment in shifting from rhetoric of condemnation to concrete recognition of Palestine and the realization of the two-state solution—while emphasizing the need to address the root causes of the Arab-Israeli conflict to achieve lasting peace.
