Iran Promises Strong Response to Israeli Airstrikes Targeting Military Sites
After Tehran vowed to deliver a decisive retaliation against Israel for airstrikes on Saturday that targeted three locations inside Iran, including facilities for missile production and air defenses, the Revolutionary Guard reiterated its threats.
Mohammad Reza Naqdi, the assistant to the Revolutionary Guard for coordination affairs, stated today, Tuesday, that stronger strikes would be aimed at Israel in the coming days. He praised Hezbollah and Hamas, saying, "You will see stronger strikes directed at the Zionist entity in the coming days, and the Israelis will be surprised by new measures and innovations," possibly referring to assaults by these factions.
He emphasized that the Israelis "will suffer greater losses," according to his remarks. For her part, Iranian government spokesperson Fatemeh Mahajerani confirmed today that "the Zionist regime will receive a response," noting that the specifics of the response are up to the Supreme National Security Council.
During a press conference today, she stated that "Israel's attack was a clear aggression against our borders," asserting that Iran has the legitimate right to defend itself. She added that the response would come at "the right time and place," saying, "It is certain that Israel will receive a response, but how and where the response will take place depends on the decisions of senior leaders."
The Iranian air defense announced last Saturday that Israeli planes targeted military sites in the provinces of Tehran, Ilam, and Ahwaz; however, it clarified that the damage was limited.
Meanwhile, the Israeli army confirmed that it successfully executed precise strikes on military sites in various Iranian regions, indicating that the attacks targeted around 20 locations.
The United States urged Iranians to calm tensions and avoid retaliation to prevent escalation in the region, warning against getting caught in a cycle of reciprocal responses. These strikes followed 26 days of mutual threats between the two countries since the beginning of this month when Tehran launched an attack with more than 180 missiles on Israeli military bases.
Washington encouraged its ally to limit its response to military sites, avoiding energy stations and nuclear facilities. Additionally, the U.S. administration has intensified consultations with Tel Aviv over the past few days to coordinate the Israeli response that occurred early on October 26.
