Jordan Considers Reopening Ramtha Border Crossing with Syria

Jordan’s Minister of Interior, Mazen Al-Faraya, confirmed that the reopening of the Ramtha border crossing with Syria is still under consideration, noting that the Syrian side has not yet rehabilitated its border facilities. In remarks carried by Al-Mamlaka TV, Al-Faraya stated that technical discussions between the Jordanian and Syrian sides are ongoing to explore mechanisms for reopening and ensuring smooth movement through the crossing.
In a related development, the Parliamentary Committee on Economy and Investment called for expanding the truck yards at the Jaber border crossing and transforming it into a fully integrated land port, in a move aimed at boosting trade activity and providing additional facilities for investors, as well as allowing citizens to travel between the two countries without prior permits.
The Interior Minister revealed that a tender has been awarded for the development of the Jaber crossing yards at a total cost of three million Jordanian dinars, with the aim of increasing capacity and improving logistical services. Al-Faraya stressed that the plan also includes allowing Jordanians to travel to Syria without prior approval, as part of efforts to strengthen bilateral cooperation and regulate passenger and freight movement in a way that serves mutual interests.
