More Than 100,000 Syrian Refugees Return Voluntarily from Jordan to Syria
أكثر من 100 ألف لاجئ سوري يعودون طوعًا من الأردن إلى سوريا

The UNHCR announced that the number of Syrian refugees who have voluntarily returned from Jordan to Syria has exceeded 100,000 people, covering the period from December 8, 2024, to June 30, 2025.

In a statement to "Al-Mamlaka," Yusuf Taha, the spokesperson for the UNHCR, explained that the increase in the number of returnees is due to improved security and economic conditions in Syria, as well as the lifting of sanctions and the end of the academic year in Jordan.

Taha expects the rate of return to accelerate after the conclusion of high school exams in Jordan, emphasizing the ongoing need for financial support from the international community to ensure the continuity of the services provided by the UNHCR to refugees in Jordan.

According to data until July 1, 2025, the number of registered refugees and asylum seekers in Jordan reached 560,452 individuals, of whom 455,832 reside in urban areas (81.3%), and 104,620 live in camps (18.7%).

Results from a rapid return intention survey conducted by the UNHCR at the beginning of 2025 showed that about 40% of Syrian refugees in Jordan expressed an intention to return to their country during the current year, while the majority remain unprepared, due to various factors including living opportunities, education, healthcare, and security in Syria.

The largest proportion of refugees in Jordan are Syrians, totaling 511,177, which accounts for 91.2% of the total registered.

Regarding aid, the total financial contributions from the UNHCR until the end of May 2025 amounted to approximately $86 million, representing 23.7% of the estimated total needs of $372.8 million, with a financial gap of about 77%.
