Moscow: Violence in Syria a Growing Concern and Calls for International Action
سوريا

Russian presidential spokesperson Dmitry Peskov expressed deep concern over the escalating violence in Syria, stressing the urgent need for the crisis to be addressed through international channels, including the United Nations.

Peskov stated in remarks to the press: “We are witnessing signs of violence in Syria that deeply concern us, a concern shared by many countries and international organizations, including the United Nations. We believe that urgent action is necessary to eliminate these violent acts as quickly as possible.”

This statement comes amid violent clashes that erupted on March 6 between Syrian security forces and armed groups opposed to the new government in Damascus, in the Latakia and Tartus governorates.

According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, 830 civilians from the Alawite sect have been killed in recent days due to the clashes in the Syrian coast. Meanwhile, the Syrian Ministry of Defense announced that 231 security personnel have died in the ongoing battles in the coastal areas.

In light of these developments, Russia and the United States requested closed consultations at the United Nations Security Council on March 9 to discuss the worsening situation in Syria, as international calls for action to halt the violence and find a political solution to the crisis continue to grow.
