Murder of Diala Al-Wadi in Damascus Sparks Controversy and Ignites Investigations

An official source from the Ministry of Interior reported a homicide in Al-Maliki neighborhood in Damascus, which occurred last Sunday evening, resulting in the death of artist Diala Al-Wadi, daughter of the late Iraqi-Syrian composer Salhi Al-Wadi, one of the most prominent symbols of contemporary Arabic music and the founder of the Higher Institute of Music in Damascus.
The source stated in a statement to the local newspaper "Al-Watan" that rumors circulating on some social media platforms about the occurrence of two crimes in the area are false. He confirmed that the Criminal Investigation Branch has begun its investigations and is gathering forensic evidence from the crime scene to uncover the circumstances of the incident, identify the perpetrators, and bring them to justice.
The official emphasized that the relevant authorities are handling the case seriously and urged citizens not to be misled by rumors, waiting instead for official information from the concerned authorities.
Meanwhile, local social media accounts stated that the victim was strangled and that the crime was committed by armed individuals who stormed her apartment in Al-Maliki neighborhood in the heart of Damascus to steal her belongings.
Diala Salhi Al-Wadi is considered one of the well-known artistic faces in the Syrian cultural scene. She participated in several theatrical and television productions in recent years and distinguished herself with her notable talent despite her limited media appearances. Her father, the late Salhi Al-Wadi, was a well-known figure who contributed to educating generations of Syrian and Arab musicians.
