Start of Sharm El-Sheikh Negotiations between Hamas and Israel

The second session of indirect negotiations between Hamas and Israel began this morning, Tuesday, in the city of Sharm El-Sheikh in South Sinai. These talks are part of efforts to resume negotiations aimed at reaching a comprehensive agreement on the release of Palestinian prisoners and Israeli detainees, based on the peace plan presented by U.S. President Donald Trump.
These negotiations come amidst a mounting regional and international wave, following the announcement of Trump's plan to halt the war in Gaza. The involved parties are seeking to leverage this momentum to achieve tangible progress toward a permanent and sustainable ceasefire, according to our correspondent.
In a joint press conference held in Cairo, Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry and Slovenian Foreign Minister Tanja Fajon confirmed that the talks focus on establishing a security mechanism to ensure the complete Israeli withdrawal from Gaza, as well as discussing the first phase of Trump’s plan, which includes the release of Israelis held in Gaza and a number of Palestinian prisoners. They also emphasized ensuring full and unrestricted humanitarian aid through UN channels.
Shoukry pointed out that the ultimate goal of these efforts is to promote a just peace based on a two-state solution, achieve geographic and political unity between the West Bank and Gaza Strip, and enable the Palestinian Authority to strengthen its position within an independent Palestinian state framework.
Additionally, Egyptian sources revealed intensive moves by the Egyptian and Qatari mediators to establish a mechanism that ensures mutual exchange of detainees and prisoners, aiming to pave the way for ending the conflict and beginning a new phase of stability in the region.
Egypt called on all parties to assume their responsibilities and implement Trump’s plan on the ground, including ending military operations, ensuring the full flow of humanitarian aid without obstacles, and releasing detainees. This is seen as a step toward detailed negotiations on implementing the political vision, which enjoys broad international support and represents a pathway toward lasting peace and sustainable prosperity in the region.
