Syrian Returning from Saudi Arabia Attacked and His Vehicle Set Ablaze by Three Men in Hama Countryside
المواطن نصر الله علي الثلجي

Syrian citizen Nasrallah Ali al-Thalji, originally from Sheikh Hadid village in the Mhardeh area of Hama countryside and a resident of Saudi Arabia since 2007, appealed to the relevant authorities to open an investigation into an incident in which he said he was assaulted and subjected to an attempted murder, while his vehicle was vandalized and set on fire, destroying personal documents and belongings inside it.

Al-Thalji said he traveled from Saudi Arabia to Syria through the Nassib border crossing on August 10. On September 5, he went to his agricultural land in his village to work there and install an irrigation line.

According to his account, he was attacked while on the land by three men whom he identified as Khaldoun al-Jassem, Abdul Rahman al-Jassem, and Abdul Wahab al-Jassem. He said the men attacked him with a metal bar and directed insulting remarks at him, including calling him a “shabiha,” as he put it.

Al-Thalji explained that he was forced to flee toward his vehicle, fearing for his life. He said the attackers then vandalized the car, which bore Saudi license plates. He added that the vehicle contained a number of personal documents and belongings, including his Syrian identity card, Syrian passport, Saudi residency permit, driver’s license, and vehicle registration, as well as a sum of money and gold bars.

He added that, some time after leaving the area, he saw the vehicle burning, and accused the three men of being responsible for setting it ablaze.

Al-Thalji called on Interior Minister Anas Khattab, Hama Governor Abdul Rahman al-Suhayan, the head of internal security, and the relevant security authorities to intervene and open an investigation into what he described as an attempted murder. He also called for legal action against anyone found responsible for the assault, the burning of the vehicle, and the destruction of his property and documents.

He said he was seeking justice under the law, protection of his rights, and accountability for those responsible for the incident. He stressed the importance of investigating his complaint, hearing his testimony, and taking the necessary legal measures.

As of the publication of this report, no comment had been obtained from the individuals named in the complaint or from the relevant official authorities regarding the circumstances of the incident.
