The humanitarian crisis in northern and eastern Syria is escalating due to the closure of vital roads.

Amidst the continued closure of key crossings, the humanitarian situation in northern and eastern Syria is deteriorating, as main roads between these areas and within the territories controlled by the transitional government have not been opened for weeks. This worsens the suffering of civilians and has a direct impact on their daily lives.
Since September 20, the Deir Hafar road has been closed to civilians, prompting drivers to use the Zakiya road as an alternative. Meanwhile, the Atheria – Tabqa crossing has been open only for humanitarian cases, patients, and students for the past five days. The Raqa – Aleppo road via Deir Hafar remains closed, in addition to restrictions on transit along the Raqa – Hama – Damascus route via Atheria, where entry is only permitted for exceptional cases. The Raqa – Madaan route is completely closed until now.
This situation comes amid deteriorating living conditions and increasing humanitarian pressures, with the closure of roads deepening the humanitarian crisis and suffering in the region. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights renewed its call to immediately open all roads and crossings for civilians, allowing the passage of people and goods according to normal legal procedures, in order to facilitate their movements and ease the burden on travelers.
